The Port Angeles Off-Leash Dog Park is having its first volunteer work party Saturday, May 19, 2012, starting at 8:00 a.m. Volunteers can meet at Lincoln Park to help clear the dog park site and install posts for the fence.

“There has been great community support with fund raising and site preparation efforts up to this point”, said Richard Bonine, Recreation Services Manager. “Now is the time for individuals to get their hands dirty and help build the facility”.
Volunteers are urged to bring work gloves, wheel barrows, post hole diggers, garden hose, weed eaters, wire clippers and any other tools to help build fence and clear the grounds.

2012 Klallam Earth Day Beach Clean-up Challenge Port Angeles, Washington
The 2012 Klallam Earth Day Beach Cleanup Challenge is a waterfront clean-up campaign with a particular focus on plastics recovery. The main waterfront clean-up will happen on the morning of Saturday April 21, 2012, and will be followed that afternoon by an Earth Day celebration that's open to everyone--volunteers and the general public alike--at The Landing in downtown Port Angeles.
Everyone will be treated to great family-fun. Starting in the morning, there will be an old-fashioned swap-meet and brunchtime music by the Luck of the Draw band. In the afternoon, music and dancing to the tunes of Deadwood Revival's Jason Mogi and Paul Stehr-Green, an art show, and a “trashion” show for the best clothing or costume made from recycled and reused materials will be featured. Registered beach clean-up volunteers will get a food coupon worth $5, as well as some other great gifts. Food will be provided by Mystery Bay Seafood and Big Horn BBQ, as well as The Landing’s on-site restaurants. The Feiro Marine Life Center will have a display with “hands-on” demonstrations of solar and wind energy. The Olympic Coast Discovery Center will also be open with its own fascinating interactive interpretive exhibits on display.
Enter in the trashion show and find your inner trashinista, as there will be cash prizes. For the best clothing or costume made from recycled and reused materials, there will be a $100 first-prize, $75 second prize, and a $50 third prize, based on “Peoples-Choice” voting. There will also be a $100 first prize for the art show, based on “Peoples-Choice” voting. The art show’s theme is Rejoicing the Earth Through Art. The art show will remain on exhibition until April 30th.
“The entire event is open to the community, and everyone is invited to join in the festivities,” according to event organizer Paul Cronauer. “Earth Day is a day intended to inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth’s natural environment. In 2012, we have 366 days to protect our local beaches…and two days to help clean them up,” he said.
On the evening of April 21st, two outstanding musical performers will do a benefit concert for Feiro Marine Life Center youth programs at Wine on the Waterfront. Singer-songwriter Danny O'Keefe along with multi-instrumentalist Joel Tepp will be coming to Port Angeles for a show that begins at 8:00 pm. Danny and Joel are donating their time for this performance. The show is produced in association with the Guacamole Fund, which is paying for their expenses. Only 40 tickets will available for general sales at a cost of $40 per ticket, and all ticket sale proceeds will go to the Feiro Marine Life Center. Tickets are available from Wine on the Waterfront at (360) 565-8466 or on-line at http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/237053.

Elwha Dam have been removel update
The last remnants of the Elwha Dam have been removed.
Contractors started removing the dam back in September. About two weeks ago, contractors removed the last piece of the dam from the Elwha River.
The river, which is in the Olympic National Park, was once home to all five species of Pacific Salmon. Environmentalists hope the removal of the dam will restore salmon runs and their natural habitat and attract animals who feed on the fish, like Golden Eagles.
The Elwha Dam was built in 1910. This has been the largest dam removal project in U.S. history.
