The Port Angeles Regional Chamber of Commerce is delighted to announce a new event which will take place August 1 2010. The event named Ride The Hurricane will be a recreational bike ride up the 12 miles of Hurricane Ridge Road from the entrance station. Registration will take place at the entrance station with each rider confirming waivers have been signed and registration paid. Riders will then receive a logoed shirt, and water bottle. Starting in mass from the entrance station at 6AM with the more elite riders up front, cyclists will have the road to themselves as Olympic National Park has agreed to close the famous Hurricane Ridge Road from the entrance station to vehicle traffic until noon. The celebration of accomplishing the ride will occur at the ridge parking lot where beverages and snacks will be available, certificates of accomplishment awarded and photos taken of each rider from the ridge with the magnificent Olympic Mountains in the background. Photos will be sent via e-mail to the participants. The ride down will require the cyclist to follow a pilot car with about 15-20 riders behind each car. Pilot cars will leave roughly every 20 minutes as needed. For the first year Olympic National Park has asked that we limit participation to 200 so if you wish to sign up please visit the chamber web site at www.portangeles.org then click on events and follow the link of Ride The Hurricane. Parking will be available at the entrance station so follow the signs. Riders that park at the Park Visitor Center and bike to the entrance station may do so, but the road from the visitor center to the entrance station will not be closed to traffic. Cost to participate in the event is $25 with payment required prior to the event. Checks should be made to Port Angeles Regional Chamber of Commerce and sent to 121 E. Railroad Ave. Port Angeles WA. 98362. If you prefer to pay with a credit card please call Russ Veenema @ 452 2363 X 13 or any of the chamber staff to process the payment.
