New Webpage to Provide Current Hurricane Ridge Road Information

Olympic National Park has established a new page on its website to provide
up-to-date information about the Hurricane Ridge Road and adding a new way
for visitors to learn about visiting this popular destination in winter.

The new webpage is part of the official Olympic National Park website, and
can be found at
http://www.nps.gov/olym/planyourvisit/hurricane-ridge-current-conditions.htm
.  A direct link to this page is also provided from the park’s home page,
http://www.nps.gov/olym/

“We hope this new page provides a new and helpful avenue for visitors to
learn about conditions on the ridge,” said Olympic National Park
Superintendent Karen Gustin.

Current Hurricane Ridge information is also available by calling the park’s
Road and Weather Hotline at 360-565-3131 or by listening to 530 AM in the
immediate Port Angeles area.

Weather permitting, the Hurricane Ridge Road is scheduled to be open daily
from Friday, December 19 through Sunday, January 4, 2009, except for
December 25 when the road will be closed.  “Even when the road is scheduled
to be open, storms and avalanches can prevent us from opening, or can force
an early closure,” emphasized Gustin.  “We urge all visitors to check the
new webpage or the Road and Weather Hotline before leaving home.”

The Olympic National Park Visitor Center is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to
4:00 p.m. except for December 25 when it will be closed.  The Hoh Visitor
Center is open from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Friday through Sunday throughout
the winter.

The park’s administrative offices in Port Angeles are open Monday through
Friday, but will be closed on December 25 and 26 for the federal holiday,
and on January 1, 2009.

More information about visiting Olympic National Park is available online
at http://www.nps.gov/olym.
