The tall ships Lady Washington and Hawaiian Chieftain have arrived in Port Angeles! The two ships are replicas of historic ships. The official ship of the state of Washington, the modern Lady Washington has appeared in several movies, including the 2003 “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.” The Hawaiian Chieftain is a replica of a typical 19th century merchant trader.
Dock-side on-board tours will be offered from 12:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, as well as from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Monday will be the crew’s day off. Three-hour battle sails — in which the two ships engage in mock battle in the Port Angeles Harbor — are scheduled at 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. A three-hour adventure sail on the Hawaiian Chieftain — which will feature demonstrations of tall ship handling, sea shanty singing and maritime storytelling — will leave City Pier at 10 a.m. Saturday. Tickets are still available for all the North Olympic Peninsula battle sails, adventure sails and passages, which can be booked between Port Angeles and Sequim, between Sequim and Port Ludlow, and between Port Ludlow and Friday Harbor. The ships will leave for Sequim early next Tuesday. Advance tickets can be purchased online at www.historicalseaport.org, by phoning 800-200-5239, or from the crew members at the ships. A $3 donation is requested for dock-side tours. No reservations are needed.
