Art in Bloom

May 5th, 2008

As we make our way through the spring, more events have cropped up to take part in or experience - specifically, ART.  The Port Angeles Fine Arts Center presents their annual ‘Art in Bloom’ display beginning at 11 am on Friday, May 9th.  The even goes throughout the weekend.  Then, Studio Bob has an art display and downtown happening beginning at 6 pm on Friday, May 9th.  On Saturday, the 2nd Saturday Art Walk takes place at the Landing Mall beginning at 11 am.

Marmot Sez:

May 2nd, 2008

Hey!  I’m the marmot who hangs out at the Port Angeles Regional Chamber of Commerce.  It’s a really cool place to be, being the ‘Center of it All’, and I really like it.  I’m just sayin’ that there’s a pancake breakfast tomorrow morning at the Fire Dept. on E. 5th St. in PA.  This fundraiser is a great way to help improve services in our community and I think it’s absolutely wonderful!  It’s from 8am-11am and there’s more info on the web.  It’s a tasty event…wonder if I can get in….

Car Show and Foot Race

May 2nd, 2008

Keeping in line with being the Center of it All, Port Angeles has a Mustang Show and Shine at the County Courthouse this weekend - if you’re a Mustang lover, this is the place for you!  Over in Sequim, there’s an Athlete’s Choice Race 30th Annual Sequim RunOff for those interested in physical activities.  Either way, you’ll have fun…safe travels, good time!

Irrigation Festival May 3-11, 2008

April 30th, 2008

Sequim, our neighbor to the east, is gearing up for their signature event - The Sequim Irrigation Festival.  This coming weekend, May 3-4,  will be a fun-filled, food and crafts festival opening for families to enjoy. This 113 year old festival is the oldest in the state of Washington.  A festival pageant, kids’ parade and Truck & Tractor pull accompany the logging show and the motorcycle display throughout the week long event.

Outdoor Art & Things

April 29th, 2008

Weather permitting (and just maybe weather will cooperate if visitors ‘demand’ it be pleasant!), a trip to the Port Angeles Fine Art Center on Lauridsen Blvd. is always a enjoyable adventure!  The exhibit is located outside the gallery and follows a really cool trail with the various artists’ works teasingly peeking out.

Open Wed-Sat. PAFAC is located at 1203 E. Lauridsen Blvd., ½ mile east of Race Street behind the Jones Street water dome. Admission is free. Hours are Wed.-Sun. 11am-5pm

Juan de Fuca Festival

April 25th, 2008

Just when you thought we’d be a quiet little seaside town after Jazz in the Olympics this weekend, we come up with another festival to attend - the Juan de Fuca Festival - May 23-26, 2008.  This festival has a wide variety of activities and events for every age group’s pleasure.  Music workshops, global market place, public art and much, much more…and great food as well!  Plan on attending this fun event and bring the kids!  It’s a great place for them to ’see and learn’.

It’s finally here…

April 23rd, 2008

All the planning and preparation is coming to fruition beginning tomorrow evening for Jazz in the Olympics!  We’ve had an interesting time getting everything ready for you and it’s been alot of fun…be sure to check out the different venues over the weekend and be ready to have a great time!

Another Weekend and…snow??

April 17th, 2008

It’s almost Friday and a busy week ahead getting ready for the Jazz in the Olympics festival next weekend - April 24, 25, 26 & 27.  At least there isn’t the forecast of snow on the agenda like there is this weekend!  Amazing that it’s April and we’re talking snow - wonder if Spring forgot she was already here?  Anyway, hope to see you at the Jazz Festival….and you just might want to tuck in an extra sweater, just in case!

Weekend Updater

April 11th, 2008

Don’t forget this weekend’s Kayak Symposium - a great opportunity to learn about kayaking on the Olympic Peninsula!  Areas around Port Angeles for good paddling range from Ediz Hook (easy) to Freshwater Bay (moderate to advanced) and on to the Pacific Coast & Sol Duc River (expert to extreme). This weekend is also Second Weekend - a catered monthly exhibit featuring Penisula artists at 6pm is a fun experience for artists and art lovers.

April Business of the Month

April 10th, 2008

The art community and downtown have a ‘new’ supporter, Bob Stokes, who owns and operates Studio Bob.  Located on Front Street, Bob’s vision and forethought created a showcase for local artists and the opening every Friday night continues to attract many.  Bob’s presence has also affected area restaurants with more patrons as have other art-themed businesses.  Look for Bob’s new venture with Paul Labrie on Laurel Street; and his anticipated working studio and glass and brass artwork to be located on Railroad Avenue!  Congratulations and thank you!
