Fall Wine and Cheese Tour with Ed Burks
November 22, 2008
This exclusive tour with Ed Burks, wine and cheese connoisseur extraordinaire, will be a wonderful adventure in wine, cheese and food. As winter approaches let’s take one more day for a beautiful drive along the shores of Hood Canal to the Walter Dacon Winery in Shelton. “The Walter Dacon Winery is dedicated to Rhone and Mediterranean style wines and sources grapes from selected vineyards in the Yakima and Columbia Valleys”, as described on their website. We will do a tasting and get a private tour of their winery.
After our tour of the winery we will stop for lunch at a quaint little traditional Mexican restaurant in Shelton.
From here we will motor through forest and glade to the Estrella Family Creamery, known for their award winning exquisite goat and cows milk cheeses. Nestled in the rural Wynooche Valley, this dairy is rapidly becoming world renown for a variety of cheddar, tomme, blue cheeses and seasonal specialties. With over 18 varieties offered, this promises to be an unforgettable cheese tasting experience.
But more than that, this is an exceptional family operation. Dedicated to organically grown and grass fed animals, their products envelope the unique taste of the land. And, if their family isn’t big enough they go out and get some more, recently adopting three children from Liberia.
Their products have enlivened the tables of fine restaurants from the Salish Lodge to New York City with raving revues. Most recently they won several gold and silver medals in cheese competition in Ireland.
When we leave here we will travel back to Shelton for a scrumptious meal at Xinhs (pronounced zins), a Vietnamese/Thai restaurant with emphasis on seafood.
What a wonderful day of wine, cheese and culinary excellence!
