    Event Description:
14th Dungeness River Festival Opens Friday, September 27 ?Think Downstream...Go Green!? is the theme of the upcoming Dungeness River Festival, which opens Friday, September 27 in Railroad Bridge Park. Festival hours are 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and admission is free.  In conjunction with the Friday-Saturday Festival, the Olympic Driftwood Sculptors will hold their fifth anniversary show on Saturday and Sunday, September 28-29, in the River Center.  Although hundreds of eager students will descend on the interactive exhibits on opening day, the Festival offers special attractions for adults on September 27, as well. At 2:30 p.m., renowned Jamestown S?Klallam story teller and Tribal Elder Elaine Grinnell will present Drums, Baskets, and Stories of the Jamestown S?Klallam People, in the Dungeness River Audubon Center. At 3:00 p.m., Joe Holtrop, District Manager of the Clallam Conservation District, will lead a plant walk in Railroad Bridge Park with special appeal to property owners and gardeners. Holtrop holds a degree in landscape architecture and he has been teaching classes on sustainable landscaping for 19 years. The interactive nature exhibits and activities on Friday and Saturday will feature nearly all the local, state, federal, tribal and non-profit entities active on the north Olympic Peninsula. In addition, the Festival will feature music, walks, presentations, story telling, food, and more. Highlights this year will include performances on Friday by the Five Acre School marimba band, the Sound Waves and demonstrations by Aspire Dance and Music Academy. On Saturday, the Jamestown S?Klallam drummers & singers will lead a traditional welcome ceremony at 10:00 a.m. and the Young Fiddlers will perform at 11:00. Afternoon activities in the River Stage amphitheater will include Jazzercise and a drumming circle. On Saturday and Sunday (10-4) The Olympic Driftwood Sculptors will hold their fifth anniversary show in the River Center. The complete Festival schedule will be available on the River Center web site, www.DungenessRiverCenter.org.   In 2012, attendance at this community-wide celebration reached nearly 3,000, including about 800 students on Friday. As you can imagine, many volunteers are needed for an event this large. If you?d like to help with set-up on Thursday afternoon (Sept. 27) or during the Festival, please contact Vanessa Fuller at rcoffice@Olympus.net or call her at the River Center, 681-4076.
