Sol Duc River Valley
The Sol Duc Valley is home to many types of outdoor activities. Among the most popular are the Sol Duc Hotsprings. Soak in any of the three mineral pools with water temperatures ranging from 90º to 105ºF. Another popular spot is the Salmon Cascades where you can see salmon returning up stream every year. Below you will find descriptions of popular hikes in the area as well.
Hiking Trails
Sol Duc Falls From the trail head large Sitka spruce and other evergreen trees greet you along this 0.8 mile trail. At the Sol Duc Falls shelter follow the right fork down to the river and Sol Duc Falls, one of the most visited and photographed waterfalls of the Olympic Peninsula.
Lovers Lane Loop This trail starts at a marked trailhead beside the Sol Duc Resort at the west end of the parking lot. This trail links Sol Duc Falls with Sol Duc Hotsprings. This 6 mile long trail offers an easy hike through pristine old growth forest and passes by Sol Duc Falls. Ancient Groves Nature Trail is a one-half mile loop through an old-growth forest and connects two roadside turnouts. For your safety, return along the loop trail rather than the road.
The Sol Duc area is also the starting point for these back country destinations: Mink Lake, Heart Lake, Deer Lake, Seven Lakes Basin, High Divide, and Appleton Pass.
Directions: Follow Highway 101 west from Port Angeles, after Lake Crescent take a left onto Sol Duc Hot Springs Road. Travel 12 miles to the end of the road.
