A Jazzy Weekend!

WOW! How much fun was the Jazz in the Olympics this year! If you attended you know what I’m talking about. If you couldn’t make it you missed out on ten upbeat fun jazz bands that played at four venues (Vern Burton, City Council Chambers, Eagles lodge and the Elks). It was so much fun going from place to place seeing different bands, and the dancing was great, some of the dancers were absolutely amazing (Wish I knew how to dance like that)! I would like to thank the bands for coming and putting on such great shows all weekend. And thank you to all the sponsors and volunteers we couldn’t have done it with out you!

Jazz Band playing on the Coho Ferry

The MV Coho Ferry celebrated 50 years of service recently and back when they were launched Traditional Jazz was very popular. On Saturday April 17 during the 2PM sailing from Port Angeles and the 4PM return from Victoria, the Olympic Dixielanders Jazz Band will be stepping back in time by filling the Coho with the sound of Traditional Jazz music. The reason for these special sets are to celebrate two Jazz Festivals that are happening in the area. April 16-18 The Victoria Hot Jazz Jubilee takes place in Sidney BC and April 22-25 Jazz In The Olympics packs the town of Port Angeles Washington. These two festivals have been bringing jazz enthusiasts to the region for years and in turn have been keeping traditional Jazz music alive in the area.

The Olympic Dixielanders Jazz Band is the youth band for the Jazz In The Olympics Society and in addition to the Coho sets they will be the opening band on Sunday morning April 25 for the Jazz In The Olympics Gospel music hour at the Vern Burton Center.
